Description

Bellagio – The most famous village of Lake Como, in the center of the lake

Bellagio is a small jewel located on the promontory that separates the two southern branches of Lake Como, those culminating in the cities of Como and Lecco. Well-known as the “Pearl of Lake Como,” it is home to a colorful historic center, beautiful gardens (parks of Villa Serbelloni and Villa Melzi), charming neighborhoods (such as Pescallo or San Giovanni), and much more.

Varenna – A picturesque village featuring pastel-colored houses

Varenna is a picturesque and traditional village, located on the eastern shore of Lake Como, Italy. It is an essential stop for anyone wishing to visit one of the most typical and peaceful towns of the lake. Here you can still breathe in the traditions of the past and is home to elegant villas with botanical gardens (such as Villa Monastero and Villa Cipressi).

Tremezzo – Opposite to Bellagio, with the wonderful gardens of Villa Carlotta

Located on the western banks of Lake Como, just opposite Bellagio, Tremezzo is a charming village famous for its stunning views of Lake Como’s central area. This picturesque destination offers a delightful lakeside promenade, and you can visit two iconic landmarks: Grand Hotel Tremezzo, a prestigious 5-star hotel, and Villa Carlotta, a historic villa open to the public, featuring one of the most beautiful gardens in all of Italy.

Villa Balbianello – The villa of the movie Star Wars and Casino Royale

Located in the hamlet of Lenno (Lavedo peninsula), Villa Balbianello has been the set for films such as Star Wars (Attack of the Clones) and James Bond (Casino Royale). It is also one of the most popular locations for photo shoots and weddings on Lake Como. Originally built in the 18th century, the villa offers elegant architecture and panoramic terraces with breathtaking views of the lake. Accessible by boat, Villa del Balbianello is a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and nature lovers.

Isola Comacina – The only island of the lake

Located in the waters off Tremezzo, just a few kilometers north of Argegno, this small piece of land is almost uninhabited and welcomes a lot of curious visitors. Isola Comacina overlooks the Zoca de l’Oli, a bay that takes its name from the local production of olives. Accessible by boat, the island features charming walking paths, archaeological remains, and the church of San Giovanni.

Laglio – Villa Oleandra (George Clooney’s house), Carate Urio, Moltrasio and Villa Fontanelle

These three charming villages boast a remarkable concentration of 18th and 19th-century villas, many of which can only be admired from the lake by boat. The most famous is Villa Oleandra, best known today as George Clooney’s summer house on Lake Como. Another iconic estate is Villa Fontanelle, a stunning residence that once belonged to Gianni Versace.

Cernobbio – Villa d’Este Hotel and Villa Erba

The last village before reaching Como is Cernobbio, a famous holiday destination with a long-standing reputation for elegance and charm. Its most iconic landmark is Villa d’Este, a magnificent 16th-century villa that has been transformed into one of the most luxurious 5-star hotels in Italy. Close by, we also have Villa Erba, a stunning residence surrounded by a big and picturesque park, adding to the area’s timeless beauty.

Como – Villa Olmo, Volta Monument and the Duomo Cathedral

As we approach the city of Como, you will be captured by its elegant historic center and breathtaking lakeside views. One of the highlights is Villa Olmo, a magnificent neoclassical villa surrounded by lush gardens. Nearby, the Volta Monument is dedicated to Alessandro Volta, the famous physicist and inventor of the electric battery. In the background, the majesty of Como Cathedral stands as a stunning example of Gothic and Renaissance architecture to complete this picturesque panorama.

Blevio and Torno – Villa Troubetzkoy, Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Villa Pliniana

Leaving Como, the first villages you’ll see are Blevio and Torno, where the shoreline is adorned with different historic villas, each with its own story to tell. Among them, Villa Troubetzkoy stands out with its timeless charm, while Villa Roccabruna, once the home of a renowned 19th-century opera singer, now belongs to the exclusive Mandarin Oriental Hotel chain. Further along, Villa Pliniana, one of the oldest residences on the lake, has welcomed famous people throughout history.

Nesso – The famous Nesso Gorge, locally known as Orrido di Nesso

Nesso is a picturesque village sitting on the banks of Lake Como. Smaller than the nearby Bellagio, it is a real haven for those who seek peace and tranquility. It is the perfect place to visit if you are looking for one of the most authentic places on Lake Como. Here you can breathe in the charm of the past and take photos of one of the most scenic waterfalls on the entire lake.
